Ole Miss Men’s Golf Advances to SEC Championship Final with Dominant Win Over Auburn
The University of Mississippi men’s golf team, ranked No. 12, advanced to the SEC Championship final after a 3-2 victory over Auburn on Saturday at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia.
Ole Miss, seeded fourth, opened the day with a convincing 4.5-0.5 win over Texas A&M in the quarterfinals. Tom Fischer led off with a 3&2 win over Jaime Montojo, setting the tone for the Rebels. Cameron Tankersley defeated Aaron Pounds 4&3, and Collins Trolio secured the third point with a 2&1 victory over Shiv Parmar. Daniel Tolf halved his match, while Cohen Trolio’s match ended while he was 2 up through 16 holes.
In the semifinals against Auburn, Fischer won his matchup against Cayden Pope 3&1, while Collins Trolio defeated the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world 2&1, with a chip-in from off the green sealing the point. Auburn tied the match at 2-2 after two wins, but Tankersley secured the decisive point with a final-hole par to beat Josiah Gilbert and give Ole Miss a 3-2 victory.
The Rebels will face Florida in the SEC Championship final Sunday, with the match televised on the SEC Network at 7 a.m. CT. Ole Miss is aiming for its first SEC title since 1984.
