Mississippi State Women’s Golf Tied for Third After Day One at Boilermaker Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Mississippi State women’s golf is tied for third after the first day of the Boilermaker Classic, held at Purdue. The Bulldogs finished the opening round at 16-over par, with a strong start in the first 18 holes but a tougher second round, according to the tournament’s leaderboard.

The top five teams averaged 1.4-under par during the first round, with Mississippi State leading that group at 1-over par. During the second round, those same teams shot an average of 11.6-over par. Miami leads the field at even par, heading into the final day.

Alicia Bellendir made her collegiate debut Monday, opening with a 3-under 69. The Texas native birdied four of her first five holes and finished the first round in the 60s. She is tied for 12th at 1-under entering Tuesday’s final round. Fellow Bulldog Avery Weed shot a 2-under 70 to start the tournament, marking her 54th career round at par or better, the third most in program history. Weed sits four strokes behind the leader at even par.
