TUPELO — Oxford’s boys turned a tight pack into a championship, and Tupelo’s girls finished atop a 61-point tie with Clinton at the 2026 Tupelo Invitational cross country meet Saturday, Sept. 12, at Tupelo High School.
Andrew Brown gave the host Golden Wave an individual victory in the boys 5A–7A race, while Tupelo Christian’s Maggie Mask led the girls 5A–7A field. University High School of Memphis swept the 1A–4A team titles, and Houston Middle School of Germantown, Tennessee, swept the middle school team and individual championships.
The “ON” Running Tupelo Invitational, sponsored by Core, featured 5-kilometer varsity races and 2-mile middle school races. Pirate Timing handled the results.

Standings below follow the corrected Pirate Timing sheets posted on MileSplit Mississippi. They include every scored team, the top 10 finishers in each varsity race and the top five in each middle school race. Team ordering is preserved when point totals are tied; individual finishing places can differ from team scoring positions.
Boys 5A–7A: Oxford’s pack delivers the team title
Oxford scored 67 points to beat Tupelo’s 80 and Clinton’s 93. The Chargers placed their five scorers between 10th and 19th, with just 24.10 seconds separating Kenneth Mcnees, Graham Vaughan, Barrett Milner, Rowan Thompson and Sam Bradley.
Brown, a Tupelo senior, won in 15:32.50, finishing 38.20 seconds ahead of Lafayette’s Kiplin Loprinzi. Madison Central’s David Lee was third in 16:24.00, followed by Tupelo’s David Mercer Sanders and Lewisburg’s Autry Foster. New Albany took fourth in the team standings with 154 points, five ahead of Saltillo.
Girls 5A–7A: Tupelo edges Clinton in a 61-point tie
Tupelo and Clinton each totaled 61 points, with the corrected results awarding first place to the Golden Wave. Tupelo’s sixth runner, Alayah Meadows, finished ahead of Clinton’s sixth runner, Eleanor Freeny. Lewisburg was third with 85 points, followed by Hernando with 110 and Oxford with 124.
Mask, an eighth grader at Tupelo Christian, won the race in 19:32.50. Tupelo senior Kailey Skaggs followed in 19:45.20, and Lafayette freshman Hazel Dawson took third in 20:22.40. Clinton’s Caroline Henry edged Hernando’s Kyleigh Carter by one tenth of a second for fourth.
Skaggs led a Tupelo scoring group that also included Ava George, Carrie Ann Brown, Ashton Roper and Ella Beard. Clinton put Henry, Riley Moore and Olivia Gibbs in the top eight. Mask is listed in the 5A–7A race on the corrected sheet; Tupelo Christian did not have a team score in that division.
Boys 1A–4A: University High wins; Tupelo Spartans finish second
University High won the boys 1A–4A team race with 54 points, six ahead of the Tupelo Spartans. South Pontotoc finished third with 115 points, Evangelical Christian fourth with 133 and Tupelo Christian fifth with 145.
University freshman Declan Murphy ran 16:54.50 for the individual title. Tupelo Spartans senior Jack Johnsey was second in 17:44.80. University’s JP Patrick and Ingomar’s Austin Hancock both clocked 18:28.00; the corrected sheet places Patrick third and Hancock fourth. New Site’s Elijah Tucker rounded out the top five in 18:42.00.
Girls 1A–4A: Fleming wins; University High takes team crown
Tupelo Christian sophomore Alexia Fleming won the girls 1A–4A race in 20:18.80, ahead of Tupelo Spartans senior Julianna Hamilton at 20:46.10. University’s Susannah Flack took third in 20:51.60, and the Spartans’ Lana Hester finished fourth in 21:15.60.
University High scored 43 points to secure the team championship. The Tupelo Spartans finished second with 60, and Evangelical Christian placed third with 82. South Pontotoc was fourth with 136. Ripley’s Jenna-Lynne Massengill earned sixth individually in 23:03.10, while West Union’s Ryleigh Garrett was eighth in 23:50.00.
Middle school boys: Houston dominates with 18 points
Houston Middle placed five runners in the first six and seven in the top 10 to win with 18 points. Starkville was runner-up with 100, followed by Madison Middle with 122 and Tupelo with 147.
Dylan Acton led Houston’s charge with an 11:01.60 victory over the 2-mile course. Teammate Walter Underwood was second in 11:26.40. Tupelo’s Charlie Potts broke up Houston’s front group with a third-place finish in 11:29.00.
Charlotte Gwatney won the girls 2-mile race in 12:59.20 to lead Houston Middle to a team victory with 37 points. Oxford finished second with 60, New Albany third with 83 and Madison Middle fourth with 104.
New Albany’s Dorothea Smith was the individual runner-up in 13:10.20, just ahead of Madison Middle’s Annie Henderson at 13:12.80. Houston’s Eloise Shelton and Oxford’s Mary Mullin Kosko completed the top five.
