Royals Promote Cerantola to Major League Ranks

Eric Cerantola has been promoted to the Kansas City Royals from Triple-A Omaha, making him the 72nd player in Mississippi State history to reach the major leagues, according to team sources.

The 26-year-old reliever could make his MLB debut as early as Wednesday night against the Cleveland Guardians at 6:40 p.m. Cerantola has posted a 1-0 record with five saves and a 1.42 ERA in 12 2/3 innings across 12 appearances with Omaha this season. He also represented Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic in March.

The Ontario native, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 225 pounds, played for the Diamond Dawgs from 2019 to 2021, appearing in 25 games and making 12 starts. He finished college with a 4-2 record, a 4.41 ERA, 67 strikeouts, and 33 walks over 49 innings.

Cerantola was drafted in the fifth round by Kansas City in 2021 shortly after helping Mississippi State win its first national championship. He is the first Bulldog to reach the majors since Jake Mangum did so on March 29, 2025. Currently, nine Mississippi State players are on MLB rosters, following Justin Foscue’s recall by the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.
