Coahoma Tigers Split Doubleheader with Southwest Mississippi

CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Coahoma Community College Tigers split a Saturday doubleheader with Southwest Mississippi Community College. The Tigers lost the opener 7-4 but rebounded with an 8-3 victory in the second game, according to game summaries.

In the first game, Coahoma took an early lead. West drove in a run with a single in the first inning, and Landon Smith doubled in the second. However, Southwest Mississippi scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win. Jonathan Miller’s two-run triple was the biggest hit of that inning. Ryne Herrington pitched six innings for the Tigers, allowing six hits and two runs with one strikeout and four walks. Gregory Fore led Coahoma at the plate, going 2-for-4. West finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs. The Tigers turned two double plays defensively. Southwest Mississippi finished with 12 hits, with Tanner Moore, Robbie Hokamp, and Luke Simmons each collecting two hits. Miller drove in two runs. The Bears stole three bases and committed no errors, with Drew Swan recording eight chances defensively.

In Game 2, the Tigers responded with a strong offensive effort and a complete-game performance from Tanner Bridgewater. Smith led with four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the second inning. He added another RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the fifth. Coahoma scored five runs in the fifth inning despite just one hit, drawing six walks in the frame. Anderson Walker singled to drive in a run, and Bryce Williams, Smith, and Baker each drew bases-loaded walks. Fore added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead. Bridgewater allowed nine hits and three runs over seven innings, walking two and striking out none. The Tigers drew 11 walks, led by Walker with three. Fore, West, Smith, and Williams each had a hit, and Baker stole two bases. The team turned three double plays in the game.

Southwest Mississippi totaled nine hits in the second game, with Swan and JD Hidalgo each recording two. Hidalgo and Justin Domiano each drove in a run for the Bears, according to team reports. Head coach Austin Biggs said, “I felt like we played really well. It’s always good to see our guys bounce back, especially on the road.”
