LeTourneau Women’s Soccer Edges Belhaven 1-0 on Second-Half Goal

JACKSON, Miss. — A goal from Chanel Kemball-Cook in the 54th minute gave LeTourneau a 1-0 victory over Belhaven on Thursday night at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. The win marked the Blazers’ first of the season, moving their record to 1-1-1, while LeTourneau improved to 2-1.

LeTourneau dominated the opening half, outshooting Belhaven 9-0, but senior goalkeeper Addi Roberts kept the game scoreless with five saves. Roberts denied Lana Whiteman twice and made stops against Jaye Dugan and Kemball-Cook in the final 14 minutes of the first half. She added another save early in the second half, stopping Presley McIrvin’s attempt in the 51st minute.

The Yellow Jackets broke through at 53:19 when Kemball-Cook scored off assists from Sarah Wyatt and Sierra Kemball-Cook. The goal ended Belhaven’s shutout streak at 233 minutes, 19 seconds. The Blazers responded with increased offensive pressure, creating four shots after falling behind. Kinsey Carter had Belhaven’s first attempt in the 57th minute, followed by shots from Jensen Ward in the 59th and 66th minutes.

Belhaven’s best chance came in the 73rd minute when McKenzee Gregory shot toward the bottom right corner, but LeTourneau’s defense recorded a team save to preserve the lead. Roberts continued to keep Belhaven within striking distance, stopping Kemball-Cook in the 80th minute and denying Saige West with less than three minutes remaining. She finished with a season-high eight saves.

LeTourneau held a 14-4 advantage in shots and put nine attempts on goal. Gregory was the only Belhaven player to register a shot on target, while Ward led the Blazers with two attempts. The Yellow Jackets also held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks. Belhaven will play next Tuesday against Rhodes in Memphis, Tennessee, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m.
