Belhaven Women’s Soccer Earns Scoreless Draw at Hendrix with Roberts’ Seven Saves
CONWAY, Ark. — Addi Roberts made seven saves as the Belhaven women’s soccer team played Hendrix to a scoreless draw Saturday morning at Warrior Soccer Field. The Blazers improved to 1-0-1 on the season and have yet to allow a goal after opening with a 3-0 win over Centenary.
Hendrix pressured early, but Roberts kept the Warriors off the scoreboard with saves in the eighth, 22nd and 31st minutes. Kinsey Carter had Belhaven’s first scoring chance in the 15th minute, forcing a save from Hendrix goalkeeper Kennedy Lewis. The Blazers created two more opportunities late in the first half, with freshmen Emma Albarado-LeDay and Aryanna Phyfer each putting shots on target, but Lewis saved both efforts to send the match into halftime scoreless.
Roberts remained busy after the break, making saves in the 47th and 52nd minutes. Belhaven began to establish its attack, earning three corner kicks in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Abby Jordan had a shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the Hendrix defense registered a team save to preserve the draw. The Warriors threatened again in the 63rd minute with two shots on goal in six seconds, but Roberts turned both away.
The Blazers pushed hard in the final minutes. They earned a corner in the 88th minute, with Faith Dreyer and Carter forcing consecutive saves from Lewis. Belhaven had one last corner with 25 seconds remaining, but neither team scored before the final whistle.
Hendrix finished with a 16-7 advantage in total shots, but Belhaven placed six of its seven attempts on target. Carter led the team with two shots on goal, while Dreyer, Jordan, Albarado-LeDay and Phyfer each had one shot on target. Hayden Kessler, Kadie Craft and Keelin Gray played all 90 minutes along the back line, helping the Blazers secure their second clean sheet of the season.
