Southern Miss Dominates Alcorn State for First Win Under Blake Anderson

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi opened its football season with a commanding 49-3 victory over Alcorn State on Saturday at Renasant Stadium, marking Blake Anderson’s first win as the Golden Eagles’ head coach, according to the team.

Steven Robinson rushed for three touchdowns and gained 123 yards on 23 carries to lead the offense. Kobi Albert intercepted three passes, just one shy of the school record set in 1967, and also contributed on defense. The Eagles’ defense forced five turnovers in the game.

The Braves scored their only points on a first-quarter field goal by Kenyon Bowyer. Southern Miss responded quickly, with Robinson’s 2-yard touchdown run giving the Eagles the lead. Ethan Hampton threw for 180 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, while Jamarice Wilder added 90 rushing yards and two scores. Mario Sanders caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Hampton.

Southern Miss finished with 543 yards of total offense and held a commanding time of possession advantage over Alcorn State. The Eagles will travel to Auburn next Saturday for a game scheduled to kick off at 6:45 p.m. on SEC Network.
