Late Goal Lifts LeTourneau Past Belhaven in Men’s Soccer

LeTourneau University scored a goal less than five minutes after Belhaven University tied the match to secure a 2-1 victory Thursday night at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.

Belhaven controlled the early part of the game, forcing three shots on goal within the first 13 minutes. Belhaven goalkeeper Justin Ramirez made a save on a shot from Colton Chalker in the 19th minute. Wyatt Dupre, Graham Harris, and Luke Finley also tested Ramirez with shots between the 30th and 34th minutes.

LeTourneau broke through in the 36th minute when Bridge Mwambukiri scored off a feed from Chalker. The YellowJackets led 1-0 at halftime despite Belhaven holding an 8-4 shot advantage.

In the second half, Dupre continued to threaten, forcing Ramirez into another save early in the second period and testing him again in the 61st minute. Belhaven equalized at 69:01 when Zachary Howard scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by Ivan Quiñones and Diego Sarzalejo.

LeTourneau responded quickly, with Leandro Ferreira scoring off Chalker’s second assist of the night, a no-look heel tap, at 73:59. Belhaven pressed for another goal, earning a corner kick in the 76th minute. Howard and Finley attempted shots during that attack, but the score remained 2-1.

Belhaven finished with a 17-10 shot advantage and led 4-2 in corner kicks. Dupre and Williams each took four shots for the Blazers, with Dupre placing three on goal. Sarzalejo and Quiñones contributed assists, and Ramirez recorded three saves in goal for Belhaven.
