Belhaven to host Huntingdon in CCS soccer quarterfinal
Belhaven earned the No. 3 seed in the CCS Tournament and is scheduled to host sixth-seeded Huntingdon in a quarterfinal at the Bowl on Halloween, with a semifinal berth at stake. The teams met in Montgomery on Oct. 24 and played to a 0-0 draw.
Belhaven outshot Huntingdon 16-9 in that match and put six shots on target, but Hawks goalkeeper Trent Wineberg stopped all six. Wyatt Dupre led the Blazers with seven shots, including five on goal. Justin Ramirez made four saves for Belhaven.
The quarterfinal is the third time Belhaven and Huntingdon have met at that stage in four CCS tournaments. Belhaven won the 2023 matchup 2-0 and the 2025 game 5-0, both at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. The teams also drew 0-0 during the 2023 regular season before Belhaven won their postseason rematch.
Belhaven has reached the CCS semifinals in each of the past three seasons. The Blazers advanced to the final in 2023 and won their first conference championship in 2024, beating Covenant 2-0 to earn a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Belhaven is 5-3 in CCS Tournament play since the league began competition in 2022.
The Blazers have won all four CCS Tournament matches hosted at the Bowl, outscoring Huntingdon, Maryville and Asbury by a combined 14-3. Belhaven also has held Huntingdon scoreless in seven straight meetings dating to 2022, going 5-0-2 with a 12-0 scoring advantage. Senior Courtland Williams scored in each of the Blazers’ two previous tournament victories over the Hawks. Adrian Sanchez also scored in the 2025 win.
Belhaven enters the tournament 2-0-1 over its last three matches, with eight goals scored and two conceded. The team finished the regular season with 40 goals from 18 players. Sanchez leads Belhaven with seven goals, Dupre has six, and Ricardo Flores has a team-high six assists. The Blazers also held season advantages in shots, 275-180; shots on goal, 104-88; and corner kicks, 95-80.
Freshman Luke Finley and Ramirez received the CCS offensive and defensive player of the week awards after Belhaven’s wins over MUW and Piedmont. Finley scored twice in the opening 63 seconds against Piedmont, while Ramirez made eight saves in a 2-1 victory. Ramirez then made four saves against Huntingdon.
Huntingdon has recorded eight draws in 16 matches, including three in conference play. Wineberg, a previous CCS defensive player of the week, helped the Hawks earn the point in the teams’ latest meeting. The quarterfinal winner is scheduled to face No. 2 Covenant on Nov. 6 at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex in Huntsville, Alabama. The CCS championship match is scheduled for Nov. 7, with the conference’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth at stake.
