Coahoma Baseball Splits Doubleheader with East Mississippi
CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Coahoma Community College split a doubleheader with East Mississippi Community College on Tuesday. The Tigers fell 14-3 in the first game but bounced back for an 11-5 victory in the second at home.
East Mississippi took control early in the opener. Whiteside hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and an error in the second extended the lead to 3-0. The Lions added six runs in the third and pulled away with a grand slam by Mitchell in the eighth. Bryson Ford started for Coahoma, allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on nine hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked three. Bryce Williams led the Tigers at the plate with three hits, and Gregory Fore added two.
In the second game, Coahoma responded with a strong offensive effort. The Tigers scored first on a wild pitch in the opening inning. They added two runs in the second after Gregory Fore drew a bases-loaded walk and Bryce Williams delivered an RBI single. The Tigers broke the game open in the sixth, scoring six runs. John Wyatt Massey singled in two runs, Anderson Walker doubled in three, and Landon Smith added an RBI single. Conner Timbs earned the win, allowing five runs, three earned, on three hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked four. The Tigers finished with 10 hits, led by Williams with three. Walker drove in three runs, and Landon Smith added two hits. The team also worked eight walks and turned two double plays.
East Mississippi’s Russell led the Lions with two hits in the second game. Bullard, Mitchell, and Willis each drove in one run. The Lions did not commit an error in either game. Coahoma is scheduled to next face Southwest Mississippi on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m., according to team officials.
