Southern Arkansas tops Mississippi College 18-11 in offensive showdown

Southern Arkansas overcame a late rally by Mississippi College to secure an 18-11 victory Tuesday at Walker Stadium. The game saw a combined 29 runs and 27 hits, highlighting the offensive fireworks from both teams.

Mississippi College (24-19) mounted an early comeback, scoring two runs in the third inning and rallying in the sixth. Alex Johnson delivered a grand slam in the sixth, part of a five-RBI night, and Jake LaRocca homered and drove in two runs. Ty Murphy added two RBIs and multiple hits, contributing to the Choctaws’ 14-hit effort.

Southern Arkansas (22-18) responded quickly, scoring in seven of eight innings. The Muleriders’ offense was led by Preston Smith and Tate Elliott, who combined for two home runs and five RBIs. Michael Herndon started the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning. The Muleriders scored five runs in the fourth inning, fueled by three home runs.

Will Daniel took the loss for Mississippi College, surrendering six runs in relief. Jackson Regan earned the win for Southern Arkansas. The teams will face off again Friday as Mississippi College hosts West Florida in the final Gulf South Conference home series of the season, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m., according to the school.
