East Central beats Coahoma 24-19 in Thursday football game

Decatur, Miss. — The Coahoma Community College football team lost to East Central Community College 24-19 Thursday night in Decatur. The Tigers rallied in the final minutes but ran out of time.

Coahoma finished with 319 yards of total offense, slightly surpassing East Central’s 305 yards. The Warriors led 17-7 at halftime and extended their lead early in the fourth quarter. Coahoma responded with a late push, scoring five straight points to narrow the gap before the clock expired.

East Central took an early 10-0 lead with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Christian Langford to Duke McDougle and a 27-yard field goal by Hayden McMinn. Coahoma answered in the second quarter with a 13-yard touchdown run by Isaac Day, and Andrew Harrison’s extra point made it 10-7. The Warriors’ King White connected with Waymond Jenerette Jr. for a 68-yard score before halftime, pushing their lead to 17-7.

Day scored again in the third quarter on a nine-yard run to cut the deficit to 17-14. East Central scored early in the fourth on a White-to-Jenerette touchdown, making it 24-14. Coahoma responded with a 28-yard field goal by Harrison and a safety to close the gap to 24-19. Despite pressure, the Tigers couldn’t complete the comeback.

Isaac Day led the ground game with 58 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Jacob Clopton finished 17-of-30 passing for 179 yards and added 49 rushing yards. Jaden Moses caught seven passes for 126 yards, including a 33-yard reception. The defense recorded three sacks and seven tackles for loss, with Josh Gale leading the pass rush with two sacks and two TFLs.

Coahoma will visit Holmes Community College on Sept. 17 for its next game.
