Millsaps Softball Wins Senior Day Thriller Over Rhodes, 6-5

The Millsaps College softball team rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday to defeat Rhodes College 6-5 in the final game of their series at the MC Softball Complex. The Majors lost the first two games of the weekend set but responded with a dramatic victory on Senior Day.

On Saturday, Millsaps honored Julia Strain for her four years of dedication and retired Molly Tyner Boland’s No. 16 jersey. The team also shared the 2026 Softball Beacon Award between sophomore Hannah Briscoe and senior Julia Strain for leadership within the community.

In Game One, Rhodes secured a 2-0 victory behind strong pitching from junior Kadence Cannon and sophomore Hailey Marange. Marange allowed just two runs over seven innings, striking out four, but Rhodes took the lead early and held on. Millsaps had scoring opportunities but couldn’t capitalize.

The second game saw Rhodes win 15-3 in a run-rule contest. The Lynx built an early lead with a grand slam and extended it throughout the game. Millsaps’s offensive efforts included hits from Caroline Mathis, Allana Vasquez, and Sarah Watson, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Rhodes’s offensive onslaught.

In the decisive third game, Millsaps’s Peterson pitched a complete game, earning eight strikeouts and allowing five runs. Jimmie Jimmie led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, including a walk-off single that scored Cannon and Brunet in the bottom of the seventh. The game featured a back-and-forth battle, with Rhodes taking a 5-2 lead in the sixth before Millsaps’s late rally sealed the win.

The Majors will next face Trinity University in a doubleheader Saturday in San Antonio, Texas. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com. Fans can follow Millsaps softball on X and Instagram or like Millsaps Majors Athletics on Facebook for updates.
