Coahoma Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Southwest Mississippi
CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Coahoma Community College’s baseball team split a doubleheader with Southwest Mississippi Community College on Saturday. The Tigers lost Game 1, 7-4, before winning Game 2, 8-3.
In the opener, Coahoma took an early lead. West singled in a run in the first inning, and Landon Smith doubled in the second. Southwest Mississippi responded with a five-run eighth inning, highlighted by Jonathan Miller’s two-run triple, to secure the win.
Ryne Herrington started for the Tigers, allowing six hits and two runs over six innings, with one strikeout and four walks. Gregory Fore led the offense, going 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot. West finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Defensively, Coahoma turned two double plays, and Drew Swan recorded eight chances in the field. The Bears had 12 hits, with Tanner Moore, Robbie Hokamp, and Luke Simmons each collecting two hits. Miller drove in two runs, and Cameron Bolden stole two bases as Southwest Mississippi stole three overall. The Bears made no errors in the field.
In Game 2, Coahoma responded with a strong offensive showing and a complete-game pitching effort. Landon Smith highlighted the game with a three-run homer in the second inning and finished with four RBIs. He also drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth.
The Tigers scored five runs in the fifth inning despite only one hit, aided by walks from Anderson Walker, Bryce Williams, Smith, and Baker. Fore added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead. Tanner Bridgewater pitched all seven innings, allowing nine hits and three runs, with two walks and no strikeouts.
Coahoma drew 11 walks in the game, led by Walker with three. Other hitters recording at least one hit included Walker, Williams, Smith, Fore, and West. Baker added two stolen bases. The Tigers turned three double plays in the field. Southwest Mississippi had nine hits, with Swan and JD Hidalgo each collecting two. Hidalgo and Justin Domiano each drove in a run for the Bears.
