Southern Miss Baseball Adds Seven Players for 2027 Season
The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team announced Friday it has signed seven new players for the 2027 season. The recruits include outfielder Cade Baker, catcher Brock Clayton, pitchers Drew Harrison and London Stewart, first baseman Cannon Peery, and infielders Brady Waugh and Luke Williams.
Baker, a 6-foot, 200-pound native of Whitney, Texas, played one season at Toledo, batting .308 with 53 runs, 23 doubles, seven home runs, and 45 RBIs. He previously played two seasons at Alvin Community College in Texas. Clayton, from Gulf Breeze, Florida, stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 210 pounds. He hit .353 last season at Northwest Florida State College, with nine home runs and 42 RBIs. During his high school career at Pensacola Catholic, he earned multiple accolades, including Pensacola News Journal’s All-Area Hitter of the Year in 2024.
Harrison, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-hander, helped Pearl River to its third consecutive MACCC championship and an NJCAA Division II national title. He finished with an 11-1 record, a 3.53 ERA, and 96 strikeouts in 81 2/3 innings last season. Stewart, a 6-foot-1, 197-pound pitcher and infielder from Conway, Arkansas, set school records at Conway High School for ERA and batting average against, and threw a no-hitter in his senior year.
Waugh, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound infielder from Birmingham, Alabama, started all 58 games at UAB last season, batting .322 with 12 doubles and 49 RBIs. Williams, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound pitcher and infielder from East Central Community College in Mississippi, appeared in 19 games with a 4-1 record, two saves, and a 3.49 ERA during his freshman season. He also batted .313 with a home run and eight RBIs.
Southern Miss finished the 2026 season with a 44-17 record, capturing both the Sun Belt Conference regular season and tournament championships. The team hosted an NCAA Regional for the second straight year and the fifth time in the past four seasons.
