Northwest Mississippi women’s soccer routs Arkansas-Cossatot 14-0 in season opener
The Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s soccer team opened their season with a 14-0 victory over Arkansas-Cossatot at the Ranger Soccer Complex in Senatobia, according to school officials.
Playing with a numerical advantage throughout the match, NWCC scored multiple goals in quick succession. Sophomore Mary Logan Clark started the scoring in the 10th minute, assisted by Olivia Miller. Less than two minutes later, Yazzlyn Alex tapped in a rebound to double the lead.
Freshman Hayden Moneymaker scored her first college goal in the 16th minute, then assisted Miller on the team’s third goal. Melanie Holt and Rylee Ringold each scored their first career goals before Maggie Pace added another with Holt’s assist. Ringold scored twice in the first half, and Ella King finished the opening 45 minutes with a goal off an assist from Pace, giving NWCC an 11-0 lead at halftime.
Iriko Rakotoarimanana scored two goals in quick succession in the second half, the second assisted by Joline Knevel, who made her long-awaited return from injury. Lara Stevens added two goals, including her second in the 68th minute, and Kami Vega scored the final goal 44 seconds later.
Coach James Beattie praised the team’s offensive diversity and emphasized the importance of contributions from all players. The team’s 14-goal performance marked a strong start to the season.
Beattie also highlighted Knevel’s return from injury as a key moment for the team. The Raiders (1-0-0) will host Rhodes College in an exhibition match Tuesday at the Ranger Soccer Complex. Fans can follow the team on social media or visit nwccrangers.com for updates.
