Mississippi State’s Duke Stone Named Baseball America’s National Player of the Week
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State pitcher Duke Stone received multiple accolades after a standout performance against South Carolina on Saturday. The sophomore right-hander was named to Baseball America’s National Team of the Week, following his role in a 9-0 victory that clinched the series for the Bulldogs.
Stone earned the win with a career-high 12 strikeouts over six innings, scattering five hits and issuing three walks. He threw 101 pitches during his outing. The 6-foot-5, 235-pounder from Uvalda, Georgia, has now appeared in 11 games, with nine starts, and holds a 6-1 record with a 3.78 ERA, 70 strikeouts, and 18 walks in 47 2/3 innings this season.
This marks the second time a Mississippi State pitcher has been named to Baseball America’s weekly honor roll this season. Tomas Valincius received the recognition on March 24 after striking out 14 batters against Vanderbilt.
Mississippi State hosts Memphis on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on SEC Network+.
