Delta State’s Byrd Named GSC Pitcher of the Week for Second Time

Delta State University senior left-handed pitcher Adrian Byrd has been named the Gulf South Conference pitcher of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Byrd pitched a complete-game shutout in the team’s weekend sweep of Auburn Montgomery, allowing only four hits and striking out 11 batters in an 11-0 victory in seven innings. This marked his second consecutive weekend with a complete-game shutout.

He leads the Gulf South Conference with a 1.79 earned-run average, 82 strikeouts, and a .205 opponents’ batting average, according to conference statistics. Byrd’s performance helped fuel the Statesmen’s success in the series.

Delta State will play its final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday afternoon, facing Harding University’s Bisons on the road.
