Delta State University senior pitcher Adrian Byrd has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Division II Player of the Week. The award recognizes Byrd’s standout performance during the weekend series against Auburn Montgomery.
Byrd pitched a complete-game shutout in the first game of the series, helping the Statesmen sweep AUM with an 11-0 victory in seven innings. He threw seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out 11 batters, according to team sources.
He leads the Gulf South Conference with a 1.79 earned run average, 82 strikeouts, and is holding opponents to a .205 batting average. Byrd is scheduled to start again this weekend at Ferriss Field, in what could be his final regular-season appearance for Delta State. The team will host Mississippi College.
