Delta State Baseball Looks to Continue Momentum in Final Conference Road Series
Weronika Kaczmarska, Cleveland, Miss. — The Delta State University baseball team (23-16, 16-11 Gulf South Conference) aims to extend its winning streak in its final conference road series. The Statesmen will face Auburn University Montgomery (11-31, 6-21 GSC) in Montgomery, Alabama.
The series begins Friday at 5 p.m., with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday starting at 1 p.m. The Voice of the Statesmen, Michael Gross, will broadcast the games on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network.
Delta State enters the weekend tied in the middle of the conference standings. The team is in sixth place but only two games behind second place, with a 16-11 conference record. In the all-time series, the Statesmen hold a 12-4 advantage over AUM. The two teams have met twice in three-game series at AUM, where Delta State is 4-2 overall. The last time the teams met in Montgomery, Delta State won two of three games earlier this season.
Tucker Jones remains hot at the plate, batting .365 with 19 extra-base hits and 53 RBIs. He is also 27-for-27 on stolen bases. Adrian Byrd continues to excel on the mound, posting a 1.99 ERA with 71 strikeouts in 63 innings. Austin Estes and Levi Lang are also hitting over .340, with Estes contributing 20 RBIs, eight extra-base hits, and 13 stolen bases. Lang has 11 extra-base hits, 32 RBIs, and a .452 on-base percentage.
On the mound for AUM, Huston Wynne leads with a 6.21 ERA over 42 innings, with 19 walks and 28 strikeouts. Christopher McNeill has a .342 batting average with 17 extra-base hits and 29 RBIs. Luke Turner is batting .331, with 12 extra-base hits, 64 total bases, and 26 RBIs.
