Delta State’s Adrian Byrd Named NCBWA First Team All-American

WINGATE, N.C. — Delta State University baseball pitcher Adrian Byrd has been named a first-team All-American by the National Baseball Writers’ Association, marking the first such honor for a Statesmen pitcher in 19 years, the organization announced Wednesday.

Byrd, a senior left-hander from Wiggins, Mississippi, posted an 8-2 record with a 1.52 ERA following the NCAA Division II regional in Pensacola, Florida. He allowed just 17 earned runs on 73 hits in 100.2 innings pitched, with 26 walks and a 0.98 WHIP. Byrd ranks among the program’s top five for strikeouts in a season with 113.

The pitcher was also named a first-team All-Region selection and Regional Pitcher of the Year by the NCBWA and the D2CCA last week. He previously received the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Year award and was a first-team all-conference selection.

Byrd is the 21st player from Delta State to earn NCBWA All-American honors and the third under coach Rodney Batts.
