Delta State’s Byrd Named NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week

LAKELAND, Fla. — Delta State University senior pitcher Adrian Byrd has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s South Region Pitcher of the Week. Byrd led the Statesmen to an 11-0 victory over Auburn Montgomery in seven innings, marking his second consecutive complete-game shutout.

In the win, Byrd threw seven innings, allowed four hits and struck out 11 batters. He leads the Gulf South Conference with a 1.79 ERA, 82 strikeouts and a .205 opponent batting average, according to the university.

Byrd is scheduled to pitch again this weekend at Ferriss Field in the final regular-season home game for Delta State, which will host Mississippi College. The game marks Byrd’s last appearance at home during the regular season.
