LAKELAND, Fla. — Delta State University baseball senior right-hander Mason Shropshire has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s South Region Pitcher of the Week.
Shropshire earned the honor after a standout performance in the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Sunday. The Memphis native carried a no-hit bid into the eighth inning, earning the win in a 7-1 victory over West Alabama, the tournament’s top seed.
He pitched 7.2 innings, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out eight batters. Shropshire is the third Delta State player to earn NCBWA South Region honors this season, joining Adrian Byrd and Tucker Jones.
The pitcher will be nominated for the national pitcher of the week award, which will be announced Tuesday. The Statesmen are awaiting their placement in the NCAA Division II National Tournament, with the selection show scheduled for Sunday night.
