Delta State’s Adrian Byrd Named D2CCA South Region Pitcher of the Year
LAKELAND, Fla. — Delta State University left-hander Adrian Byrd was named the 2026 Division 2 Conference Commissioner’s Association South Region Pitcher of the Year, the organization announced Thursday.
Byrd, who also earned Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Year honors, has a 1.52 earned run average in 100.2 innings pitched. The Wiggins native has struck out 113 batters and walked 26 this season. He ranks among the program’s top five in single-season strikeouts, according to Delta State athletics.
Byrd is the first Delta State pitcher to earn regional pitcher of the year honors since Tre Hobbs in 2016.
Junior outfielder Tucker Jones also received first-team All-South Region honors. Jones led the team with a .366 batting average, 11 doubles and 63 RBIs. The Brandon native also led the Gulf South Conference with 31 stolen bases on 31 attempts.
The Statesmen face Edward Waters University in an elimination game scheduled for 1 p.m. Central Time this afternoon.
