Hinds Women’s Tennis Shines at NJCAA Division II Championship
SUMTER, S.C. — The Hinds Community College women’s tennis team wrapped up a successful run at the NJCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championship held at the Palmetto Tennis Center. The team showcased its depth and resilience against the nation’s top programs.
Rodia Noudogbessi led the way, reaching the semifinals in Flight 2 singles. She opened with straight-set wins, defeated the No. 6 seed in the Round of 16, and continued her momentum into the quarterfinals. Noudogbessi finished the tournament with a 4-2 record, including a 3-1 mark in singles play.
Jaqueline Vargas also made a significant impact, advancing to the semifinals in Flight 3 singles. After a first-round bye, Vargas won her Round of 16 match and secured a quarterfinal victory over the No. 4 seed before falling to the top seed. She posted a 3-2 overall record, going 2-1 in singles.
Macie Curtis competed in Flight 4 singles, earning a convincing victory in the Round of 16 before reaching the quarterfinals. She also teamed with Vargas in Flight 2 doubles, where they won their Round of 16 match and reached the quarterfinals with a 2-2 overall record.
Daniela Lopez Rodriguez participated in Flight 1 singles and doubles, earning a Round of 16 win in singles and partnering with Noudogbessi in doubles. The duo narrowly missed advancing to the semifinals after a close three-set match in the quarterfinals.
Taryn Green and Landry Parks made a strong run in Flight 3 doubles, winning two consecutive matches in the consolation bracket before falling in a 9-8 final. Green also contributed in singles with a victory in Flight 5, while T’Errial Owens added a consolation bracket win in Flight 6, demonstrating resilience after tough early matches.
Overall, the Hinds team competed deep into multiple brackets, earning wins over seeded opponents and proving they can contend with the top programs nationwide.
