Six Owls Named to All-SLIAC Softball Team

Six members of Mississippi University for Women’s softball team were named to the All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) teams, the league announced Tuesday. Additionally, senior Kaitlyn Bearley was recognized on the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Junior transfer Addison Owen earned first-team honors after leading MUW with a .442 batting average in conference play. She appeared in all 15 SLIAC games, drove in 11 runs, and compiled a .654 slugging percentage. Owen also scored 16 runs, ranking sixth in the league, league officials said.

Brooklyn Rhodes, a sophomore, earned second-team honors for the second consecutive year. In league games, she posted a 4-2 record with a 2.94 ERA over 33.1 innings. Rhodes struck out 26 batters and walked five. She also contributed offensively, batting .375 with three doubles, two triples, and nine RBIs when not pitching, the league reported.

MC Brown, a senior who played her first full softball season in six years, also received second-team recognition. Brown, a two-sport athlete at MUW, led the Owls with four home runs and was tied for second in the SLIAC. She slashed .282/.615/.451 and led MUW with 16 RBIs and 11 walks in league play.

Three freshmen from MUW earned third-team all-conference honors. Trinity Garvin, a utility player who also pitched, posted a 4-2 record with a 2.10 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 35 innings. She batted .442, tying Owen for the team lead, with 8 RBIs and 13 runs scored. Outfielders Brianna Byrd and Gillion Eaves also received honors. Byrd, a junior transfer, hit .345/.379/.441, while Eaves, a freshman, slashed .322/.356/.366 with 13 runs scored and 11 RBIs, league officials said.

All honorees are from Mississippi or Tennessee, with the exception of Brown, from Illinois. The league recognized these players for their performances during the season, league officials added.
