Jackson State Pitchers Talmadge Davis, Jayden Lopez Earn SWAC Weekly Honors

Jackson State University sophomore pitcher Talmadge Davis and senior pitcher Jayden Lopez each received weekly honors from the Southwestern Athletic Conference after their performances against Alcorn State.

Davis was named SWAC Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week. He threw his second consecutive complete game, limiting Alcorn State to one hit—a sixth-inning double—and allowing just six base runners. He struck out 15 batters, including striking out the side in the ninth inning to close the game. Davis recorded at least two strikeouts in six of nine innings and has struck out 33 batters over his last three starts spanning 22.1 innings.

Lopez was named SWAC Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season. He pitched seven innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits with 15 strikeouts Sunday. This marked his second consecutive game with 15 strikeouts in the series. Lopez has recorded 29 strikeouts over his last three outings spanning 19.1 innings. Jackson State, which stands at 20-23 overall and 11-12 in SWAC play, will face Mississippi Valley State in a three-game series starting Friday night.
