Mississippi College’s Zweerink Named GSC Field Athlete of the Week
Rebekah Zweerink, a sophomore at Mississippi College, was named the Gulf South Conference Field Athlete of the Week for her performance during the week of April 13-19, the conference announced Wednesday.
Zweerink finished second in the discus at the UAH Rocket City Invitational, throwing a personal-best and school-record distance of 44.87 meters. Her effort ranks first among GSC leaders in the event, according to the conference.
Other weekly award winners included Aria Hawkins of Lee, who was named the track athlete of the week, and Cooper Garrett of UAH, who earned freshman of the week honors. Hawkins competed in the 1500-meter and 800-meter events at the Georgia Tech Invitational, placing second in the 1500 with a time of 4:19.84. Garrett won the javelin throw with a distance of 46.14 meters at the same meet.
The conference has recognized top performers weekly throughout the 2026 outdoor season, with Zweerink now among the list of distinguished athletes.
