Ole Miss Pitcher Walker Hooks Named to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List
OLE MISS — Walker Hooks, a pitcher for the University of Mississippi baseball team, has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Midseason Watch List for the Stopper of the Year award, the school announced Monday.
Hooks has posted a 3-0 record with four saves and a 2.48 earned run average over 15 appearances and 32.2 innings this season, according to the school. He has struck out 40 batters and limited opponents to a .165 batting average.
The sophomore has been particularly effective in recent outings, earning three wins and four saves with a 1.37 ERA over his last nine appearances. During that span, he struck out 23 batters and walked only two over 19.2 innings.
Hooks has allowed more than one earned run only twice this season and has converted a save in each of his last three outings. The award recognizes the top relief pitcher in college baseball.
Ole Miss is aiming for continued success as the season progresses. The team’s next games include a series against Georgia and matchups with Arkansas and Texas A&M, among others, as outlined in their schedule.
