Mississippi State’s Duke Stone Named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State’s Duke Stone was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week after a standout performance in a series-clinching shutout against South Carolina on Saturday, according to the university’s athletics department.

Stone, a sophomore right-hander from Uvalda, Georgia, struck out 12 batters over six scoreless innings, throwing 101 pitches. He scattered five hits and issued three walks, improving his record to 6-1 this season. In 11 appearances, including nine starts, he has a 3.78 ERA with 70 strikeouts and 18 walks over 47 2/3 innings.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound pitcher shared the weekly honor with Cade Townsend of Ole Miss. Stone is the second Mississippi State player to earn SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week recognition, joining Tomas Valincius, who received the award on March 16. He is also the third Bulldog to receive an SEC weekly award, following Jacob Parker, who was named Freshman of the Week on March 23.
