Southwest Mississippi Softball Sweeps Coahoma in Doubleheader
Southwest Mississippi Softball traveled to Clarksdale on Friday, April 17, and swept Coahoma in a doubleheader. The Lady Bears won game one 13-3 and game two 6-3, according to team sources.
Allie Ladnier started on the mound in game one, pitching two innings without allowing a hit or run. Tye Boone and Skyler Turnage combined to finish the game, with Boone striking out four in three innings. Ladnier pitched all seven innings in game two, allowing three runs and striking out five.
Southwest took an early lead in game one, scoring seven runs over the first three innings. Jana Phillips singled to start the scoring, giving the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead. Bailey McLin followed with a single that drove in two more runs, extending the lead to 3-0. The team added five more runs in the second and third innings to establish a commanding lead.
Key hits in game one included multiple singles from players like Alexis Dejean, Kate Clements, and Corin Talbot. Clements and Phillips each had three hits in the game, while multiple players contributed with two hits apiece. Clements and McLin each drove in two RBIs.
In game two, the teams were tied 2-2 after three innings. The Lady Bears took control in the fifth, with Tristan Allen hitting a double to clear the bases and give Southwest a 5-2 lead. They added another run on a groundout before securing the 6-3 victory.
Players such as Bailey McLin, Corin Talbot, and Ladnier each recorded two hits in the second game. Tristan Allen led the team with three RBIs, and Lauryn Roebuck stole a base. Coach Shea Johnson called the sweep an important step toward reaching the regional playoffs, which remain the team’s goal for the season.
The Lady Bears, now 27-13 overall and 14-10 in conference play, are scheduled to travel to Wesson on Tuesday, April 21, for a conference doubleheader against Co-Lin.
