Mississippi State Women’s Golf Ties for Eighth After Second Round at SEC Championship

BELLEAIR, Fla. — Mississippi State women’s golf posted a sub-par round Saturday at the SEC Championship and is tied for eighth place entering the final day of stroke play, according to the tournament website.

Avery Weed led the Bulldogs with her second straight under-par round, finishing 2-under for the day and moving to 6-under overall. She trails the individual leader by two strokes and is tied for second place heading into Sunday’s final round, which will determine the SEC individual champion.

Moa Stridh carded an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole and finished 1-under for Saturday, her ninth round of par or better this season. She moved into a tie for 18th at 1-under overall, inside the top 20 for the tournament.

Ines Belchior and Samantha Whateley concluded the round at 1-over par. Belchior started the back nine with three consecutive birdies after a 3-over first nine, closing with momentum. Whateley birdied hole 14 to reach 1-over and finished her day with pars.

The Bulldogs are tied with Tennessee and Auburn at 1-under par, trailing seventh-place Texas A&M by two strokes. They aim to improve their standing Sunday to advance to match play, which begins Monday. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com.

The SEC leaderboard has Texas in first at 10-under, followed by Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. Mississippi State is among a group of teams at 1-under, vying for a spot in the top eight. The final stroke-play round will determine which teams advance to the match play phase of the tournament.
