Mississippi State Women’s Golf Opens SEC Championship Friday

Mississippi State’s women’s golf team will start its postseason journey Friday at the SEC Championship at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the top eight teams advancing to match play on Monday, according to school officials.

The Bulldogs aim for their second SEC title after winning the championship in 2024. The field includes a competitive lineup, with the team fielding a consistent roster of five players for stroke play. The lineup features juniors Avery Weed and Samantha Whateley, senior Izzy Pellot, and freshmen Ines Belchior and Moa Stridh.

Belchior and Stridh are making their first SEC appearances but have made notable contributions in their debut season. Belchior has recorded three rounds in the 60s, the most by a Bulldog freshman, while Stridh has recorded two. Weed and Pellot were part of the 2024 championship team, with Pellot making her fourth SEC appearance and Weed her third.

Freshman Lynn van der Sluijs will serve as a substitute in the lineup. Last season, Whateley finished tied for 13th in stroke play, and Weed and Pellot contributed to the team’s victory in 2024.
