Southern Miss Baseball Hosts Texas State in Sun Belt Series

The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team will host Texas State in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series starting Friday at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Golden Eagles (25-12, 8-7 Sun Belt) aim to break a season-long three-game losing streak.

All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on Southern Miss Sports Network affiliates. The series positions Southern Miss in a five-way tie for third place in the conference standings, one game behind second-place Texas State (25-12, 9-6).

The teams have faced each other annually since Southern Miss joined the Sun Belt in 2023. The Golden Eagles hold a 6-4 series lead and have won five of their last six meetings with the Bobcats, according to school officials.

Southern Miss features four players hitting over .300, led by senior second baseman Kyle Morrison, who is batting .336 with 11 home runs and 34 RBIs. Junior shortstop Seth Smith is hitting .325 with two homers and 20 RBIs, and has an eight-game hitting streak. Senior center fielder Joey Urban and junior left fielder Davis Gillespie are also contributing offensively, with batting averages above .310 and nine home runs each.

The starting pitchers for the first two games are expected to be sophomore left-hander Grayden Harris, with a 6-1 record and 3.24 ERA, and sophomore right-hander Camden Sunstrom, who is 2-3 with a 2.51 ERA. The Sunday starter has yet to be announced. Following the series, Southern Miss will host Tulane in a midweek game Tuesday at 6 p.m.
