Southern Miss Football Wraps Spring Practice with Fan Showcase

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi football team concluded its spring practice season Saturday with a fan-focused showcase at Carlisle-Faulkner Field and M.M. Roberts Stadium. The event featured drills, scrimmages, and fan contests, engaging a large crowd of supporters.

Head coach Blake Anderson opened the event with a brief message before the team participated in individual drills. The team then moved into a live scrimmage focusing on third-down scenarios. The defense started the session, but Robert Henderson sparked the offense with a long run, according to sources.

Anderson noted the team’s ongoing development. “We still have a long way to go,” he said. “That was probably evident today, but you can see how we are progressing. We’ve come a long way from January as a team, as in growing as a team as well.”

During the scrimmage, quarterback John White connected with Jaylen Himes on a quick slant during a third-and-long drill. The offense went two-for-four in that period, while the defense recorded four consecutive stops. Following the drills, fans participated in a punt, pass, and kick contest, which the coach jokingly declared a win for the fan, saying “tie goes to the fan.”

The event also included one-on-one drills, pass rush and blocking exercises for linemen, and seven-on-seven drills for skill players. Punt specialists Reed Harradine and Dusty Zimmer also took part in punting drills, while fans attempted to catch punts from players.

Anderson emphasized the significance of the final practice period, noting it was a chance for players to demonstrate leadership. “Some of the guys are starting to separate themselves with their consistency,” he said. “Leadership is beginning to emerge. They’re coachable, they accept challenges, and they respond the right way.”

Among standout performers, Mario Sanders caught two touchdown passes—one from quarterback Landry Lyddy on a deep ball and another from transfer Ethan Hampton. Tulsa transfer Champ Lewis recorded an interception shortly after Sanders’ first score, closing the session on a high note.

Following the practice, Anderson addressed the team before signing autographs for fans. Season tickets for the 2026 schedule—featuring six home games at The Rock—are now available for purchase at SouthernMiss.com/Tickets. Fans are encouraged to follow @SouthernMissFB on social media for updates.
