Mississippi State Women’s Golf Tied for Fourth After Opening Round at Chapel Hill Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Mississippi State women’s golf team opened the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional with a 2-over-par 282 and is tied for fourth place after the first round, according to the NCAA leaderboard.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Avery Weed, who shot 1-under 69 on the par-70 course at UNC Finley Golf Club. Weed recorded four birdies and her 20th round of par or better this season, tying her single-season best set during her sophomore year.

Senior Samantha Whateley finished even par, marking her 12th round of par or better this season and the most she has recorded since joining the team. She is currently tied for 12th, one stroke outside the top ten.

Ines Belchior contributed a 1-over 71, with her score improving after back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16. She is tied for 18th. Freshman Moa Stridh also birdied holes 15 and 16 and finished at 2-over 72, tying for 26th.

Mississippi State trails the team leader, North Carolina, by eight strokes entering Tuesday’s second round. The Bulldogs aim to stay consistent and move into the top five to advance to the NCAA Championship, which concludes Wednesday.
