Anthony Fobb Joins Ole Miss Men’s Basketball Staff as Assistant Coach
OXFORD, Miss. — Anthony Fobb has been named an assistant coach for the Ole Miss men’s basketball program, head coach Chris Beard announced Tuesday.
Fobb joins the Rebels after spending the last three seasons on Chris Mudge’s staff at Sam Houston State University. Last year, he was named the 2026 TABC Division I Assistant Coach of the Year and recognized as one of the nation’s rising assistants.
During his tenure at Sam Houston, Fobb helped guide the Bearkats to a 22-12 overall record, a 13-7 mark in Conference USA play, and a berth in the 2026 National Invitation Tournament. The team, initially picked ninth in the CUSA preseason poll, finished second in the league.
Fobb played a key role in recruiting and coaching Kashie Natt, who was named the 2026 CUSA Defensive Player of the Year. He also contributed to the development of Lamar Wilkerson, who earned First Team All-CUSA honors before transferring to Indiana, where he set program records for points and three-pointers in Big Ten play.
In 2023-24, Fobb helped lead Sam Houston to its first-ever conference regular-season championship, finishing 13-3 in league play and 8-0 at home. Under his coaching, Wilkerson and Davon Barnes received all-conference honors. Barnes transferred to Ole Miss for the 2024-25 season and helped the Rebels reach the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
Fobb has also contributed to the team’s defensive and rebounding strategies. According to KenPom, Sam Houston ranked third in adjusted defensive efficiency nationally and was second in opponent two-point shooting percentage during his tenure.
Prior to his time at Sam Houston, Fobb was head coach at Mayde Creek High School in Katy, Texas, for five seasons, leading the team to four consecutive winning seasons and postseason appearances. He was twice named TABC Regional Coach of the Year and Campus Coach of the Year.
He also led the John Lucas III Elite 17U team for two summers, coaching six ESPN Top 100 players and over 20 Division I prospects. Earlier in his career, he was head coach at Aldine High School, where he improved the program from an 0-25 season to a 26-12 record in his first year.
A Louisiana native, Fobb graduated from Jehovah Jireh Christian Academy in 1999, earning all-state honors as a player. He played college basketball at Southeastern Louisiana University before serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Fobb holds a degree in criminal justice from Southeastern Louisiana and a master’s in criminal justice administration from Southern University.
