Alcorn Volleyball Prepares for Non-Conference Match Against Alabama

Alcorn State’s volleyball team is set to face the University of Alabama in a non-conference game Wednesday evening in Tuscaloosa. The Lady Braves are coming off the Carrie Yerty Classic in Memphis, where they competed hard throughout the tournament, according to team sources.

The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Foster Auditorium and will be streamed on SEC Network+ with live stats available. Neither team is ranked in the current AVCA Division I Coaches Poll Top 25.

Alcorn’s notable players include Rylan Jones, who has 87 kills and 16 digs this season, and Courtney Carter, with 78 kills and 53 digs. Jaylynn McNeill has added 49 kills and 16 blocks. The Lady Braves are currently 0-9 overall and have yet to open their SWAC schedule.

Alabama, which also is unranked, features Victoria Barrett, leading the team with 332 kills and 232 digs, and Kaleigh Palmer, who has 172 kills. Sophie Agee has contributed 203 kills for the Crimson Tide.

The last meeting between the two programs was on September 14, 2019, when Alabama defeated Alcorn 3-0. The Lady Braves will return home Sept. 26 to face Grambling State in their conference opener at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
