Mississippi State volleyball is traveling to Memphis for the Carrie Yerty Classic after winning three consecutive matches. The Bulldogs will face Alcorn State on Friday and Memphis on Saturday at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
On Friday, Mississippi State (5-1) will meet Alcorn State (0-7) at 3 p.m. CT. The Bulldogs are coming off a victory over Wake Forest in the ACC/SEC Showdown, where Lindsey Mangelson posted her fourth straight match with at least 15 kills and added 14 digs. McKenna Yates recorded 21 digs in that match, her second 20-plus dig performance of the season. Bernardita Aguilar notched her third consecutive double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs.
During the SEC/ACC Challenge, Aguilar set a career high with 20 kills, 17 digs, three aces, and 24.5 total points against Iowa. Mangelson averaged 4.50 kills per set at a .367 clip during that event, while Yates averaged 4.50 digs per set, including a season-high 22 against Iowa. Mangelson also aims to become the fastest Bulldog to reach 500 career kills.
Memphis, which defeated Alcorn State in its home opener Thursday, holds a 2-4 record. Caitlyn Little leads the Tigers with 93 kills, averaging 3.88 per set. Alcorn State, still seeking its first win of the season, is led by Rylan Jones with 68 kills, averaging 2.62 per set.
Mississippi State and Memphis have met 29 times since 1975, with their first regular-season matchup since 2015. The Bulldogs last faced Alcorn State in 1989, winning in straight sets. Fans can follow the matches via live stats and ESPN+.
