Winston-Salem, N.C. — Mississippi State volleyball will play its second consecutive road match when it faces Wake Forest on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Reynolds Gym. The Bulldogs enter the game with a 4-1 record after winning both matches in the Big Ten x SEC Challenge last weekend, defeating Northwestern and Iowa in four sets each, according to school officials.
In the victory over Iowa, senior Bernadita Aguilar posted a career-high 20 kills, along with 17 digs, three service aces and 24.5 points, marking personal bests in multiple categories. Aguilar, who attacked at a .385 clip during the challenge, also recorded her second 20-plus kill match of her collegiate career. Additionally, Lindsey Mangelson averaged 4.50 kills per set with a .367 hitting percentage during the challenge, while McKenna Yates contributed 4.50 digs per set, including a season-high 22 against Iowa. Mangelson ranks ninth in the SEC and in the top 30 nationally with 4.22 kills per set, and Yates is fifth in the SEC with 4.44 digs per set. Cayley Hanson averages 10.28 assists per set, ranking seventh in the SEC.
Wake Forest enters the matchup with a 2-3 record after losing its most recent game to Georgetown. The Demon Deacons are coached by Jeff Hulsmeyer, who is in his second season. Last year, Wake Forest finished 15-16 and was defeated by Alabama in the Showdown at the Net. The Bulldogs have won both previous meetings against Wake Forest, including a 3-0 sweep last season on Sept. 10, 2023.
