CUHTBERT, Georgia — Blue Mountain Christian University’s women’s soccer team opened Southern States Athletic Conference play with a dominant 8-0 victory over Andrew College on Thursday. The Toppers scored seven goals in the first half to secure their first win of the season.
Daniella Nieto led the offensive effort, recording a hat trick and an assist. She opened the scoring just 2 minutes and 30 seconds into the match, assisted by Nayelli Aguayo. Less than a minute later, Nieto found the back of the net again. Aguayo scored her first goal at 4:10, assisted by Alba Hernandez, giving BMCU a three-goal lead less than five minutes into the game.
Madison McGillivray added another goal in the seventh minute. Duda Koespel extended the lead to 5-0 at 11:54, assisted by Aguayo. Taylor Duggar scored in the 20th minute, and Nieto completed her hat trick at 23:26, making it 7-0 less than 24 minutes into the match. The Toppers carried a commanding lead into halftime and continued to control the game after the break.
Andrew College managed its only shot on goal in the 54th minute, but Kiana Gordon made the save. Hernandez scored the final goal at 58 minutes, assisted by Nieto, to cap the scoring at 8-0. The Toppers kept pressing, with Koespel hitting the crossbar and Hernandez striking the post in the final 10 minutes.
Blue Mountain outshot Andrew College 23-1 and placed 17 shots on goal. Seven different players scored for the Toppers. Nieto led the team with six shots, five on goal, three goals, and an assist. Aguayo finished with a goal and two assists, while Hernandez added a goal and an assist. The defense was equally strong, holding Andrew College to one shot on goal and securing its first clean sheet of the season, with Gordon making the lone save.
With the win, Blue Mountain improves to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
