Blue Mountain Christian Opens SSAC Play With Win Over Andrew College

CUHTBERT, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian opened Southern States Athletic Conference play Thursday with a 2-1 win over Andrew College. The Toppers scored twice in the first half and held on for the victory.

Alfonso Vasquez and Nicholas Vieira scored for Blue Mountain Christian, which outshot the Tigers 17-6 and limited Andrew to just two shots on goal. The Toppers held a 1-0 lead at halftime after Vasquez scored in the 36th minute, assisted by Erick Braga.

Andrew equalized early in the second half when Manuel Lopez scored off an assist from Paul Coaxum in the 62nd minute. However, Vieira responded for Blue Mountain Christian with his third goal of the season in the 69th minute, assisted by Mateus Furio, to give the Toppers a 2-1 lead.

Blue Mountain Christian’s defense protected the lead late, denying Andrew on two corner kicks and preventing any further shots on goal. Vasquez and Vieira each finished with two shots on goal and a goal, while Braga and Furio each recorded an assist. The Toppers finished with 17 total attempts and eight on target.

Blue Mountain Christian improved to 3-1-1 overall and started conference play 1-0. The team will look to build on its opening win in upcoming matches.
