Blue Mountain women’s soccer beats ABAC 3-0 for second SSAC win

Blue Mountain Christian University’s women’s soccer team secured its second Southern States Athletic Conference victory of the season Thursday, defeating Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 3-0 at The Summit.

The Toppers (2-5, 2-1 SSAC) dominated offensively, outshooting ABAC 21-6 and recording 11 shots on goal. They broke the scoreless tie in the 18th minute when Daniela Nieto scored off an assist from Duda Koespel, placing the shot in the top-right corner of the net.

Blue Mountain maintained its lead through halftime, holding a 12-3 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes. In the 76th minute, Nieto played a through ball to Nayelli Aguayo, who scored to double the Toppers’ lead. Aguayo then assisted Alba Hernandez, whose shot hit the crossbar and went in during the 80th minute, sealing the victory.

Nieto led all players with seven shots, including five on goal, despite playing only 20 minutes. She finished with a goal and an assist. Aguayo added six shots, three on target, and contributed a goal and an assist. Hernandez had three shots and scored the third goal, while Koespel earned an assist.

Defensively, Blue Mountain limited ABAC to just one shot on goal. Kiana Gordon made the save to record her first shutout of the season. The Toppers held a commanding 11-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

The victory improves Blue Mountain’s conference record to 2-1. The team will host Wesleyan College at The Summit on Saturday in the SSAC Women’s Soccer Match of the Week.
