Blue Mountain Christian and Wesleyan settle for draw on Senior Day

Blue Mountain, Miss. — Daniela Nieto scored in the 77th minute to help Blue Mountain Christian College secure a 1-1 draw against Wesleyan College on Saturday at The Summit. The match coincided with Senior Day for the Toppers.

Wesleyan opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Caleigh Patton scored from approximately 35 yards out. The Wolves held the lead through halftime, despite being outshot 17-5 by Blue Mountain Christian in the first half. The Toppers put six shots on goal before the break but trailed 1-0.

Blue Mountain Christian continued its offensive attack in the second half. Nieto’s goal at 76:07 leveled the match, capping an active afternoon for her, as she led all players with seven shots. The Toppers pressed for a winning goal in the final minutes but could not find a finish.

Overall, Blue Mountain Christian outshot Wesleyan 28-16 and held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. Nayelli Aguayo led the team with six shots, two on target. Taylor Duggar placed both of her attempts on goal. In goal, Sophie Young started and made one save before Kiana Gordon entered just over three minutes into the match. Gordon played the remaining 86:53 and finished with five saves.

Both teams recorded six corner kicks. Blue Mountain Christian is scheduled to face the University of Tennessee at Southern next Saturday in Pulaski, Tennessee.
