USSU Edges Blue Mountain Christian in Late Goal

Blue Mountain Christian University women’s soccer team faced a tough challenge Thursday against unbeaten USSU at The Summit. The match remained scoreless for more than 82 minutes before USSU secured a 1-0 victory.

USSU’s goalkeeper Kiana Gordon recorded 10 saves as the visitors applied pressure early. They took 10 shots in the first half, with six on target, but Gordon stopped all six attempts. BMCU generated three shots in the opening 45 minutes, including two on goal, but couldn’t find the net.

The defensive intensity continued after halftime. Gordon added four more saves in the second half, keeping the Toppers in the match. The breakthrough came at 82 minutes and 22 seconds when Ambria Snell scored off an assist from Ansley Warner, giving USSU a 1-0 lead with less than eight minutes remaining.

BMCU pressed for an equalizer but was unable to break through before the final whistle. The Toppers finished with five shots, with two on goal, led by Nayelli Aguayo and Maria Eduarda Koespel, who each had two shots. Koespel placed both attempts on target, and Aguayo recorded one shot on goal. Cassidy Remson added the team’s other shot.

USSU held a 21-5 advantage in total shots and an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. Despite facing 11 shots on target, Gordon kept the hosts in the game until the late goal. She finished with 10 saves in the loss.
