Southern Miss Women’s Soccer Draws with Jacksonville State at Home

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss women’s soccer (1-2-2) battled Jacksonville State (1-2-2) to a 1-1 draw Thursday night at the Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex, earning a point at home. The Golden Eagles controlled most of the match, outshooting the Gamecocks 14-13 and maintaining possession advantage in the second half.

Zara Werema put Southern Miss ahead in the 72nd minute, assisted by Olivia Tribolet. The Golden Eagles created multiple chances to extend their lead but were unable to capitalize. Jacksonville State responded quickly, with Michelle Hochstadt scoring from outside the box in the 83rd minute to even the score.

Logan McGruder made five saves in goal for Southern Miss, helping preserve the draw. The team finished with six shots on target and had 55 percent possession. Southern Miss also registered seven corner kicks and maintained disciplined defensive shape, despite yellow cards issued to Ella Jefcoat, Tribolet, and Georgia Gray.
