Delta State Football Travels to Central Missouri for Week Three Clash

The Delta State University football team will travel to Warrensburg, Missouri, this weekend to face the University of Central Missouri Mules. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT Saturday at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field, with pregame coverage beginning at 6 p.m., on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network via Radio Cleveland Majic 107.5 WMJW. The contest will also be available via pay-per-view on the MIAA Digital Network, according to school officials.

Delta State enters the game with an 0-2 record after losing 36-13 last weekend to Wingate University. Central Missouri earned its first win of the season last Thursday, defeating Missouri Western 49-10 in Warrensburg.

Head coach David Dean, in his first season leading the Statesmen, brings more than 35 years of coaching experience, including over two decades as a head coach. Dean’s career record stands at 127–49, with three NCAA Division II national championships, seven Gulf South Conference titles, and a runner-up finish. He previously coached at West Georgia, where he compiled a 48–20 record, and at Valdosta State, leading the team to two national titles and multiple playoff appearances.

The Mules are led by head coach Josh Lamberson, in his fifth season. Central Missouri finished 9-3 last year and advanced to the Heritage Bowl, where they defeated Texas-Permian Basin 39-37 in double overtime. UCM quarterback Zach Zebrowski, a two-time Harlon Hill Award winner, is among the top players in Division II.

Saturday’s game marks the seventh meeting between Delta State and an opponent from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Statesmen hold a 4-2 record in those matchups, including last season’s 31-23 victory over UCM. The teams previously met in the 2011 NCAA Division II semifinals.

On the road, Delta State has a 25-25 record over the past 50 games, dating back to 2015. Coach Dean’s teams have a 57-24 record in away games in his career. The program’s overall record stands at 513-420-23 in its 95 seasons, making it one of just 38 NCAA Division II schools with more than 500 wins.

Delta State’s last trip to Missouri was in 2023, when they beat Missouri S&T 48-20 in the GSC Championship season. This weekend’s game will be their first visit to Warrensburg to face the Mules.
