Mississippi State’s Taylor, Evans Earn National Weekly Honors

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State football players Kamario Taylor and Anthony Evans III received national weekly honors following their performances in Saturday’s victory at Minnesota.

Quarterback Kamario Taylor was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week and made the Davey O’Brien Great 8 list after completing 16 of 22 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. He also rushed 13 times for 86 yards. Taylor ranks fourth nationally in total yards per game with 363 and is responsible for 48 points this season. He is the first Bulldog since Dak Prescott in 2014 to open a season with at least seven passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown through two games.

Wide receiver Anthony Evans III earned a spot on the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll and received honorable mention for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. He caught seven passes for 121 yards and a touchdown against Minnesota and added one rush for six yards. Evans leads all SEC pass catchers with 14 receptions this season and ranks ninth nationally with 119.5 receiving yards per game.

The Bulldogs return to action Saturday at South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium. The game kicks off at 3:15 p.m. Central Time and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
