Houston, Texas — The Alcorn State Lady Braves are preparing for a busy weekend, facing Texas Southern University on Friday and Prairie View A&M on Sunday. The team won its last match 3-0 at home last Sunday and hopes to carry that momentum into this weekend’s contests.
The match against Texas Southern is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at the H&PE Arena in Houston. The game will be streamed live on YouTube, with live stats available. On Sunday, Alcorn will face Prairie View A&M at noon at the William J. Nicks Building in Prairie View, Texas. There are no live streams or stats planned for that game.
Alcorn is not ranked in this week’s AVCA Division I Coaches Poll Top 25. Neither Texas Southern nor Prairie View A&M appears in the rankings.
Key players for the Lady Braves include Rylan Jones, who leads the team with 108 kills and averages 2.63 per set, along with 67 digs and three assists. Courtney Carter has 98 kills and leads with a 2.45 kills-per-set average. Cristin Webb has 44 kills and nine service aces. In their last meeting, Alcorn fell to Texas Southern 3-0 in November 2025, with Carter leading with four kills and nine digs.
The Lady Braves also lost to Prairie View A&M in the previous matchup in November 2025, with the Panthers sweeping the match. Prairie View’s Lauren Battle is the top offensive threat with 112 kills, while D’Mya Hill leads Alcorn’s upcoming opponents with 135 kills and a 3.21 per set average.
Alcorn enters the weekend with a 1-11 record for 2026 and a 1-1 record in SWAC play. The team is led by interim head coach Gabrielle Harris, now in her second year.
